Our Story
A new chapter at a familiar Mission Hills address.
Who we are
From Mestizo to Izote
Our Mission Hills location has served Salvadoran food to the San Fernando Valley for years as Mestizo, a family-owned restaurant founded in 1999. Under new ownership, we are carrying that home-cooked tradition forward as Izote Salvadoran Kitchen.
The rebrand brings a bolder look, a fast-casual counter experience and a full café menu, while keeping the recipes and the warm welcome neighbors know.
The name
Why Izote?
The izote is the national flower of El Salvador. It rises on a tall stalk with clusters of cream-white blooms, and its petals are cooked into traditional dishes. For us it means resilience, home and generosity.
Our logo pairs the izote with a sun rising over the volcanoes, a nod to the landscape of El Salvador.
